Meet Ms. Brumbaugh In 1978, I received a bachelor of science degree from Berry College. In the fall I started my teaching career at a small school in northwest Georgia - Ballground Primary in Cherokee County. Over the years I have had careers in areas other than education. In 1986, I moved to the northeast Georgia mountains and taught middle and high school students in Hayesville, NC. Then I moved on to working with college-bound students in the admissions office at Young Harris College. In 1996, I returned to the teaching profession at Towns County Comprehensive Schools where I have been assigned to teach many subjects as well as grade levels such as: middle school journalism, 8th grade earth science, high school biology, environmental science, human anatomy, physical education in the elementary and high school, and the in-school suspension program. In August of 2003, I completed my Masters of Science in Education degree from Walden University with a specialization in Integrating Technology in the Classroom. In 2005, I was given the opportunity to create a technology lab for Towns County Middle School, which also included teaching connection classes in keyboarding and software applications to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. In 2010, I came back to teaching science - my first love of teaching. My teaching certifications are in Middle School (science, social studies and language arts), Physical Education and Health (K-12), and Biology (6-12).
My mission as a teacher is to help every student to become an active and life-long learner and to encourage curiosity, imagination, and creativity. I will help my students to achieve their personal best by establishing high expectations in academics as well as in their behavior. I will use humor as a motivating factor whenever possible. I will hold my students accountable for their actions. Even though I grew up in Perry, which is located in the middle of the state, I now call the Hiawassee/Young Harris area my home. In December of 2008, Chris Sudduth and I were married along the banks of the Hiawassee River. We have one four-legged child - Swee'Pea (Border Terrier). Butterbean and Daisy Mae, 14 yr. old terriers, passed away this summer after a long life with me. Chris has two grown children and three grandsons. I have family in the area. My father, Gene Brumbaugh, lives in Hiawassee. My grandmother, who was a very important lady in my life, spent her last 25+ years in Hiawassee. She was 100 years old when she passed away. I enjoy working in my flower gardens and watching the different birds that flock to my feeders. Observing nature is a way I enjoy life. My husband and I like to travel the mountain roads on a motorcycle. It's a great way to see the country side. I enjoy photography as a hobby too. Reading a good book is another way I use my free time. Some of my favorite authors are John Grisham, Nicholas Sparks, and Patricia Cornwell. "Harris & Me" by Gary Paulsen is my all-time favorite book to read aloud to students. |
